Heidelberg Drops OAC Contest To John Carroll 4-1

 

The Heidelberg College men’s soccer team lost to visiting John Carroll 4-1 Wednesday afternoon at Mayer Field. John Carroll improves to 2-7-4 and 2-2-2 in the Ohio Athletic Conference while Heidelberg falls to 4-8-3 and 1-5 in OAC games.

             

With John Carroll leading 2-0, senior Paul Evans (Manchester, England / Holy Cross) headed the ball into the back of the net to cut the Blue Streaks lead in half. Evans scored the goal off a throw-in by sophomore Brad Howell (Lexington, Ohio / Lexington).

             

The goal for Evans was his fourth of his career and first since his sophomore season.

             

For John Carroll, Brad Schoenfelt began the scoring in the 29th minute. The Blue Streaks made it 2-0 10 minutes later when Jeff Kosek scored what proved to be the game-winning goal. Louis Kastalic tied a John Carroll record with an assist on every Blue Streaks’ goal.

             

In goal for Heidelberg, freshman Brian Periman (Tucson, Ariz. / Sabino) fell to 2-2-2 on the season and made three saves on seven shots faced.

             

John Carroll outshot Heidelberg 18-10 in the game, including 7-4 in shots on goal.

             

Heidelberg plays their final road contest of the 2006 regular season Saturday when they travel to Marietta. Game time with the Pioneers is set for 2 p.m.
