Men’s Soccer Dominates Defiance 4-0 Brent Kehrle scores two goals
The Heidelberg College men’s soccer team remained undefeated at Mayer Field with a 4-0 win over Defiance on a pair of goals by senior Brent Kehrle (Lexington, Ohio / Lexington). The Berg improves its record to 3-3-3 on the season and Defiance falls to 1-7-1.
In the first half the Berg out shot the Yellow Jackets 9-6. In the 36th minute Kehrle netted the eventual game-winning goal just outside of 12 yards on an assist from senior Paul Evans (Manchester, England / Holy Cross), his first of the season. The score would remain 1-0 entering halftime.
The Tricolor dominated the second half as they put three more goals in the back of the net, out shooting Defiance 13-8 and 22-14 for the game. In the 53rd minute Kehrle again found the back of the net with his team leading sixth goal of the season on a corner kick from just outside 10 yards. Also netting his first goal of the season in the 54th minute was sophomore Billy Banks (Hampton, Pa / Hampton) on an unassisted goal from 10 yards out. In the 83rd minute freshman Matt Cox (Tucson, Ariz / Sabino) scored his first of the season from fellow freshman Jimmy Borda (Dayton, Ohio / Northmount) from just outside eight yards.
Freshman goalie Brian Periman (Tucson, Ariz / Sabino) finished with two saves. He improves his overall record to 2-1-2. The Yellow Jackets were led by Karl Eustache who finished with four shots and one on goal.
The men’s soccer team will back in action Sept. 30 in its Ohio Athletic Conference opener at Muskingum College. Game slated to begin at 2:00 p.m.
