Men's Basketball Releases 2006-07 Schedule

Fifth-year head coach Duane Sheldon of the Heidelberg College men's basketball team has announced the release of the Berg's 2006-07 schedule. Heidelberg will play a 26-game schedule that features 13 games in Sieberling Gymnasium, the home of Heidelberg basketball.

Heidelberg opens up its 2006-07 slate at the Mount St. Joseph's Tournament Nov. 17-18. The Berg opens the tournament against Kalamazoo Nov. 17 at 3:00 p.m. North Park and host Mount St. Joseph round out the four-team tournament.

The Berg's non-conference schedule is highlighted by its home opener with Defiance Nov. 21. Following Defiance the Berg travels to Bluffton (Nov. 25) before returning to Tiffin for a match up with Myers (Nov. 28). Also on its non-conference slate for the Berg is home games with Hiram (Dec. 21) and Penn State Altoona (Dec. 30).

Ohio Athletic Conference action begins at Wilmington Dec. 2. Also in December is home OAC contests with Ohio Northern (Dec. 6) and Muskingum (Dec. 16), with a game at Mount Union sandwiched in the middle (Dec. 9).

Heidelberg opens the first of the year hosting five games during the month of January. Included in the home schedule for January is Capital (Jan. 3), John Carroll (Jan. 10), Baldwin-Wallace (Jan. 17), Wilmington (Jan. 20) and Mount Union (Jan. 27). Four road games are tabbed at Otterbein (Jan. 6), Marietta (Jan. 13), Ohio Northern (Jan. 24) and Baldwin-Wallace (Jan. 31) to close out the month of January.

In final preparation for the OAC Tournament Heidelberg hosts Marietta Feb. 3 followed by traveling to John Carroll (Feb. 7). The regular season comes to a close with a home contest with Otterbein Feb. 10 and a two-game road trip that includes Capital (Feb. 14) and Muskingum (Feb. 17).

Heidelberg returns nine letter winners from the 2005-06 season, including all-conference honorees Shawn Shriver (Wakeman, Ohio / Western Reserve) and Greg Tyson (Lima, Ohio / Lima Senior). Also returning is Brian Schmidt (Hinckley, Ohio / Brunswick), Chad Szalay (Lorain, Ohio / Clearview), Ron Higgins (Vermillion, Ohio / Firelands) and Andrew Lemmon (Port Clinton, Ohio / Port Clinton), all of which join Shriver and Tyson as the top-six returning scorers from last season.
