Men’s Basketball Falls To Capital On The Road

The Heidelberg College men’s basketball team fell to Ohio Athletic Conference foe Capital University tonight 79-67.  The win improves Capital to 16-7, 13-4 in the OAC, while the Berg falls to 13-11 overall and 9-8 in the OAC. 

Capital won the opening tip-off and never looked back as they started the game on a 10-0 run. Heidelberg calmed down and went on to outscore Capital 14-10 to cut the lead to six with 9:01 to play in the first half. Capital pushed its lead to as much as 16 and went into the locker room with a 43-29 lead.

Heidelberg opened the second half and outscored Capital 12-4 to cut the Crusaders lead to eight at 49-41 with 16:04 to play. Capital kept its composure and pushed its lead to 17 at 74-57 with 3:23 to go.  Heidelberg, however, closed the game with a 10-5 run, but time expired.

Leading the way in scoring for the Berg was Shawn Shriver (Bellevue, Ohio/ Western Reserve) with 23, hitting 4-for-9 from three-point range. Following Shriver was Andrew Lemmon (Port Clinton, Ohio/ Port Clinton) with 16, also hitting four three’s, and Brian Schmidt (Hinckley, Ohio/ Brunswick) with 13. Leading the way on the glass was Schmidt with seven, followed by Greg Tyson Jr. (Lima, Ohio/ Senior) with six.

Capital had four players in double figures led by Steve Kyser with 19 and Nate Stahl with 13. Kyser also led the way in rebounds for Capital with seven.

Heidelberg returns to action Saturday on the road against Muskingum. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
