Men's Basketball Win Streak Halted By Wilmington, 89-71 Junior forward Andrew Lemmon (Port Clinton, Ohio / Port Clinton) recorded a career-high 25 points, including five three-pointers, but it was not enough as the Heidelberg College men's basketball team suffered an 89-71 Ohio Athletic Conference setback to visiting Wilmington College. The loss snaps a four-game winning streak for the Berg and brings its overall record to 11-6 and its league mark to 7-3, while the Quakers improve to 11-6 overall and 6-4 in conference action.
Joining Lemmon in double figures was Ron Higgins (Vermilion, Ohio / Firelands) with 16 and Shawn Shriver (Bellevue, Ohio / Western Reserve) with 10. Higgins completed a double-double, pulling down 10 rebounds.
Brandon Rogers led four in double figures for the Quakers with 14 points, while Scott Walters, Kerry Wilkinson and Rogers all grabbed six boards apiece.
Heidelberg jumped out to a 14-0 lead behind two treys from Shriver over the first 15:02 of the contest, but the Quakers began to find the bottom of the net and went on a 20-4 run to knot the score at 20-20 with just under 10 minutes before intermission. Heidelberg and Wilmington battled to four more ties with the last showing a score of 27-27. Wilmington's Wilkinson hit a lay up that ignited a 10-2 Quaker run to close the opening half and give Wilmington a 37-29 halftime advantage.
Wilmington extended its lead to 13 points, 46-33, to open the second half. The Berg cut the Quaker lead to six on two occasions, with the later coming on two free throws from Higgins with 12:41 left in the ballgame, but that would be as close as they would get.
Heidelberg returns to action at Ohio Northern Jan. 24. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
