Mount Union Hands Heidelberg Its Second OAC Loss Of The Season

For the second-straight week the Heidelberg College football team dealt with the presence of a nationally-ranked opponent as well as mother nature. The Berg suffered a 58-0 setback at the defending national champion and currently ranked No. 1 Mount Union College, in a game that was originally scheduled for Saturday, but was postponed due to inclement weather.

Mount Union scored on its opening drive to take an early 7-0 lead, but the Heidelberg defense bounced back on the Purple Raiders next possession and forced Mount Union in a three and out series, only to see Mount Union find the end zone in its next two possessions to extend its lead to 21-0. Chad Packard (Brook Park, Ohio / Midpark) intercepted a Mike Jorris pass on the goal line in the final minutes of the first quarter to stop a final scoring threat by Mount Union in the final minute of the first quarter.

Heidelberg opened up the second quarter with a 13-yard rush by Chris Cola (Strongsville, Ohio / Strongsville) to push the Student Princes into Purple Raider territory and a first down. Bryan Prorok (Balitmore, Ohio / Liberty Union) connected for six yards with Lucas Bauer (Huron, Ohio / Huron) and Cola gained another six yards for another 'Berg first down, but four-straight incomplete passes by Prorok turned the ball over on downs.

Mount Union scored three more touchdowns and added a field goal as time expired in the opening half to take a 45-0 lead at the intermission.

The Heidelberg defense held Mount Union to 13 second half points. Sophomore Brian West (Huron, Ohio / Huron) recorded a game-high and career-high 16 tackles in the setback.

Prorok completed seven passes for 101 yards, including three receptions to Bauer and a long of 25-yards to Dawond Roddy (Sidney, Ohio / Sidney). Cola tallied 55 yards on the ground on 20 carries to lead the Berg’s rushing game.

Heidelberg concludes a two-game road trip at Baldwin-Wallace Oct. 7. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
