Berg Baseball Adds Jeff Fontaine To Coaching Staff

Eighth-year head coach Matt Palm of the Heidelberg College baseball team has named Jeff Fontaine as an assistant coach. Fontaine joins the Berg coaching staff following a four-year playing career at the University of Evansville.

Fontaine was a four-year starter in the outfield at Evansville from 2003-2006. He was a member of Evansville's 2006 NCAA Tournament squad which won the school's first-ever Missouri Valley Conference regular-season and tournament titles.  Evansville finished the 2006 season with a 43-22 overall record, and advanced on to the Charlottesville (Va.) Regional Championship Game.

For his career at Evansville, Fontaine stands 10th in games played (222), 11th in doubles (44) and 15th in career at bats (678). As a freshman in 2003 he led all freshmen in the MVC in hitting with a .360 batting average.

Fontaine is currently in the process of being trained by the Indiana Baseball Academy to become a hitting instructor. He also has experience as a camp instructor at the ACES Baseball Elite Skills Camp and the Indianapolis Cathedral Irish Baseball Camp.

Fontaine graduated from Evansville with a bachelor of science degree in business administration in May 2006. He is a native of Zionsville, Ind. and attended Indianapolis Cathedral High School.

Heidelberg is a member of the 10-team Ohio Athletic Conference. The Berg has made an appearance in the OAC Tournament six out of the last seven years, including the last four-consecutive seasons.
