| Heidelberg Takes Two From Mount Union The Heidelberg College baseball team got back to its winning ways by defeating Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) foe Mount Union College, 4-1 in the first game, and 6-2 in the second game. After the doubleheader the Student Princes improve to 14-4 overall and 2-0 in the OAC, while Mount Union drops to 5-12 and 1-3.
In game one, Heidelberg jumped right onto the scoreboard after Jeremy Wentworth (Johnstown, Ohio / St. Charles) singled and stole second base and was knocked in by an Alex Rutter (Bowling Green, Ohio / Bowling Green) single. Rutter then went on to steal second and third and scored off a single from Jack Bault (Randolph, Ohio / Waterloo). The Berg added another run in the second and Mount Union tried to get a rally going in the third, but was only able to pick up one run. Heidelberg added an insurance run in the fifth to close the game out. Mount Union’s Shawn Kerek suffered his first lose of the season, dropping him to 4-1, while Heidelberg’s David Paddock (Westerville, Ohio / Westerville North) pitched a complete game, giving up one run on eight hits, to improve to 4-1. The Tricolor had seven steals in the game led by two from Rutter.
In the night cap, Mount Union came out quickly scoring a run in each of that first two innings. In the top of the third the Berg cut the lead in half on an RBI single by Wentworth that scored Cody James (Belle Center, Ohio / Benjamin Logan). James reached the bases on a double. In the fifth the Student Princes jumped on Mount Union’s pitcher, scoring four runs on four hits, to take the lead for good. Within the inning James, L.B. Emrhein (Seven Hills, Ohio / Padua Franciscan), Wentworth and Tyler Tocco (Dublin, Ohio / Coffman) all recorded hits. In the last inning Wentworth ended the scoring on a passed ball. Recording the win was Andrew McFarland (Mansfield, Ohio / Madison). Mcfarland pitched a complete game giving up two runs on five hits and struck out seven.
Leaders for the Berg were Wentworth with four hits, Tony Pawlowicz (Montpelier, Ohio / Montpelier) with two hits and Rutter with two stolen bases.
