Heidelberg Falls To Ohio Dominican

Senior Dimitar Nedkov scores second goal of season

The Heidelberg College men’s soccer team netted the contest’s first goal but two scores by Ohio Dominican in the 63rd minute gave the Panthers a 2-1 win.

After a scoreless first half, Heidelberg senior Dimitar Nedkov (Sofia, Bulgaria) headed in his second goal of the season on a pass from senior Kevin Holt (Manchester, England / Holy Cross).

The score remained 1-0 until the 63rd minute when Ohio Dominican scored a pair of goals. The Panthers held on for the 2-1 victory.

In his first appearance for the Student Princes in goal since the first game of the season, sophomore Brian Benson grabbed nine saves in 90 minutes of action and falls to 0-1 on the young season.

Ohio Dominican outshot Heidelberg 26-7, including 11-5 in shots on goal.

“I am happier with our performance tonight then this past weekend,” said head coach Brian Haley. “There were a lot of positives and great performances. [Senior] Paul Evans (Manchester, England / Holy Cross) and [sophomores] Brian Juart (Hilliard, Ohio / Hilliard Darby) and Raul Mendez (Mexico City, Mexico / Green Hills) played very well.”

“We played a quality team in Ohio Dominican, who has already beaten two top-20 teams. They did not really break us down. They shot and scored from long distance. After this game, we will regroup and get a win Saturday in our home opener,” added Haley.

On Saturday, Heidelberg will be hosting Alma. Kickoff for the home opener is set for 2:00 p.m.
