Heidelberg Tops Tri-State 2-1 Sophomore Adam Schockman scores first of career for game-winner The Heidelberg College men’s scored a goal in the first and last ten minutes of the game to top Tri-State University 2-1 Friday afternoon.
The Fighting Student Princes wasted no time in starting the scoring when Senior Kevin Holt (Manchester, England / Holy Cross) scored his first goal since his sophomore season on a cross from 20 yards out by senior Dimitar “Mitko” Nedkov (Sophia, Bulgaria) to put Heidelberg up 1-0 over Tri-State 5:42 into the game.
The Berg had numerous scoring opportunities in the first half with five shots on goal but the Thunder’s goalie Adam Franszak kept Heidelberg in check.
Tri-State evened in the 79th minute when Scott Blasey’s penalty kick found the back of the net.
Heidelberg sophomore Adam Schockman (Camp Denison, Ohio / Camp Denison) scored what proved to be the game-winner at the 83:46 mark of the game on a pass from senior Brent Kehrle (Lexington, Ohio / Lexington). Schockman’s strike was the first of his career in only his seventh game for Heidelberg.
For the game, the Student Princes outshot the Thunder 22-11, including 8-4 in shots on goal. Freshmen goalie Brian Periman (Tucson, Ariz. / Sabino) grabbed three saves to even his record in goal at 1-1-1.
After the game, Heidelberg Head Coach Brian Haley commented, “The first fifteen minutes of the game, good performence., deserved to be 1-nill. After that, we took our foot off the gas pedal and paid the price and couldn’t get momentum going again… When they got back to 1-1, we stepped on it and showed that we could play to 2-1. Overall, we cannot be happy with this performance.”
Heidelberg returns to action tomorrow afternoon at 12:30 p.m. as they take on the Hanover Panthers.
