American Junior Year
"My language partner and I are close friends.   I know our friendship will be a lasting one.  The language exchange was my favorite part of the program. "  -- AJY participant

As another means of improving your German proficiency, special language partnerships are arranged for students wishing to meet informally with a German student. You and your partner decide when and where to meet.

You will be matched up with a language partner prior to your departure from the U.S. so that you can correspond in advance. When you arrive in Germany, your language partner will be waiting to meet you.

American Junior Year Program
Once a month, the program sponsors an informal get-together for language partners and AJY students
American Junior Year
4th of July picnic with language partners

The golden rule to be followed is to speak German for half the time and English for the other half, enabling you both to get conversational practice and to switch roles from learner to teacher.

In past semesters, students have found that their language partners provided them with a wealth of information about where to go, what to see, and what to do.
