Symposium scheduled at BGSU

The Blade (Toledo, OH)
07-13-98

The era of Fallen Timbers will be the subject of a symposium Sept. 18-20 at Bowling Green State University.

The gathering, titled "The 60 Years War for the Great Lakes, 1754-1814," will draw more than 40 scholars from the United States, Canada and Great Britain to present a wide range of papers on the period. The conference will examine the interaction of military, political, economic, and cultural developments during the conflict.

In addition, the Pennsylvania Historical Society's U.S. Brig Niagara, a rebuilt version of Commodore Oliver Hazard Perry's relief flagship in the Battle of Lake Erie, is scheduled to be docked at International Park in Toledo, and there will be re-enactment of camp life at Fort Meigs.

Two paintings of the Battle of Lake Erie by Alabama artist Dean Mosher will be unveiled. One is of the battle itself; the other of Commodore Perry departing his flagship, "Lawrence."
