Letter from Mayor Finkbeiner to Fallen Timbers Committee

Information regarding negotiations and discussions about the possible sale of the land

CITY OF TOLEDO
Carleton S. Finkbeiner
Mayor

June 18, 1996

Dear Fallen Timbers Committee Member:

Walter Edelen and Rick May have been keeping me informed of the progress of your meetings. This includes your determination to obtain affiliate unit status for the Fallen Timbers battle site, which is in the City of Maumee but owned by the City of Toledo.

Please be advised that we are currently working to have appraisals prepared for the land in question. These latest appraisals will replace the initial one which was prepared by the William Fall Group. The first appraisal was flawed in that incorrect zoning information was used. We have corrected that deficiency in our latest attempts.

Until such time as we have a definitive price fixed within the Administration of the City of Toledo, we will be unable to move forward with any negotiations or discussions about the possible sale of this land.

In closing, I am compelled to remind you that we currently have the first right of refusal in place with the Isaac Corporation for the purchase price of $50,000 an acre included as part of that document. Obviously, any offer less than this will have to be very carefully considered. Please keep in mind that although I have been supportive of historic investigations that were carried out, I still have an obligation to the taxpayers of the City of Toledo to obtain the best return possible for the land in question.

Sincerely yours,

[Signed]

Carleton S. Finkbeiner
Mayor
