Heidelberg Professor G. Michael Pratt, Senator DeWine, the senator's son Mark and Maumee Mayor Steve Pauken pause in front of the memorial.

After meeting at the state memorial, the officials traveled to a corner near the site of the battlefield.

The officials and some local residents observed the area where the Battle of Fallen Timbers took place, just beyond the treeline.

Dr. Pratt uses a framed map to show (l-r) Maumee Valley Heritage Corridor president Ted Ligibel, Maumee Mayor Steve Pauken, Sen. Mike DeWine and Ft. Meigs Site Director Larry Nelson how the battle happened.

Dr. Pratt and Sen. DeWine discuss the battle, standing near a sign that identifies the battlefield site and a fallen red and white "For Sale" sign that had been put up on the site by the city of Toledo.

Dr. Pratt discusses with Sen. DeWine and Ft. Meigs Site Director Larry Nelson the impact of the Battle of Fallen Timbers.

Sen. DeWine pauses to survey the site of the Battle of Fallen Timbers while Dr. Pratt relates how the site was identified in a 1995 archaeological survey.
